Publicans can be the “heroes” that create social value in their communities, Pub is The Hub chief executive John Longden has told the Admiral Taverns Podcast.
John believes that there needs to be better appreciation of the important role publicans and their pubs play in supporting people living locally, especially in rural areas.
“There is a lack of recognition of what heroes’ publicans are in creating that social value in their community,” he said.
John also explained that Pub is The Hub’ advisors can help publicans, who are working with their local communities, to broaden the range of services and activities that can support and bring people together.
“Either by diversifying to create things like village stores or community cafes or provide activities to help local residents overcome loneliness through a range of activities, even travelling theatre or art classes,” he said.
“The publican is the hero and we are there to inspire them.”
The Admiral Podcast was set up in August 2022 by the community pub company as a way to support its’ licensees and operators.
