The SWOT analysis should help you to think logically and with clarity about the key areas of the pub project and will enable these to be easily summarised. This will help with the assessment of the viability of your objective to save your local pub and in communicating your plan to others.

Strengths

  • Good location in the centre of the village
  • High level of disposable income locally
  • Significant interest from the local community
  • Plenty of space in the grounds
  • Commercial kitchen a good size
  • Local demand for eating out ? Dog and Duck, in next village, is always full

Opportunities

  • Underused building on the end of the pub
  • Post office closing due to retirement of postmaster
  • Car park could be extended into grounds
  • New friendly landlord will welcome customers, serve good food with a smile!

Weaknesses

  • Poor state of decoration in the pub
  • Car park too small
  • Unwelcoming and rude landlord
  • Over priced food
  • Poor quality beer and wine
  • Slow service
  • Dirty facilities

Threats

  • Roof potentially needs repair
  • Owner may try to get planning for residential conversion
  • Cannot change the poor image of the pub locally
  • Investment cannot be raised
