22-May-2008 Morning Advertiser - Cornish pub is artistic hub
Pub is the Hub has helped a Cornish pub to promote work from a local artist.
The Prince Charles-backed group, which aims to regenerate rural pubs, helped arrange for Gloria Curnow-Butterworth's work to be displayed at the Royal Oak, at Perranwell Station.
The scheme cost nothing and freehold licensee Richard Rudland said some new customers have visited to see the art and stayed for food and drink.
"Pubs need to be thinking laterally about their business, particularly in these times," said Rudland. "If there's any potential to do other things, people should go down that route."
Curnow-Butterworth said: "Coming from the hospitality industry myself, I know how hard it is to stay at the top and bring fresh ideas to the local pub and community. Pub art is a fantastic way to promote the pub,"in general."
