13 Nov 2006 The Publican - Pub Post office in line for prize

POST OFFICES in three rural pubs have been shortlisted for a national award. The Wheatsheaf in Crudwell, Malmesbury, Wiltshire; the George and Dragon, in Banbury, Oxfordshire and the Black Lion Hotel in Tregaron, mid-Wales, are all up for the title of Best Rural Post Office branch in the Best Post Office Awards 2006.

A spokeswoman for the awards, due to be announced on Thursday, November 16, said: "Pubs have done really well this year and there have been more nominations than ever before for pubs." A number of rural pubs have diversified their services, including taking on post offices, over the past few years - inspired by the Pub is the Hub scheme.
