This is Scunthorpe - Workshops will show how to make the pub as the hub

A NEW Pub is the Hub workshop will take place in the next few months. The original workshop was due to take place in March at the Haven Inn, Barrow Haven, but had to be postponed.

Pub is the Hub was initiated by The Prince of Wales in 2001 and is a not-for-profit advisory organisation with a strong track record of supporting over 300 pub-based rural services.

It encourages rural pub owners, licensees, and their local communities to work together to support, retain and locate local services where possible within the pub.

Projects range from providing local shops to encouraging the local sourcing of produce, accommodating post office services and preparing local school meals.

"This is good news because we have always felt there are so many licensees out there needing our support," said Pub is the Hub director John Longden. "Pubs need special care and attention and a good licensee is a local hero."

The workshop will cover topics including getting started, identifying community needs, and developing and implementing ideas that can help to diversify and sustain the business.

North Lincolnshire Council's economic development team will be speaking to rural pub owners and licensees over the next couple of months to discuss the types of support and events they most want to see.

Anyone interested in attending can call (01724) 297330. A date is to be set.
