Morning Advertiser - Pubs could use £1.3bn funding for post offices
Pubs may be able to take advantage of £1.3bn worth of fresh Government funding to add post offices.
That’s the hope of Pub is the Hub director John Longden after Business Secretary Vince Cable announced the four-year funding package to “maintain and modernise” the Post Office network.
As well as maintaining the current 11,500 post offices branches, Cable announced “innovative” plans to “hand the ownership and running of the post office to employees, sub-postmasters and local communities”.
This could give scope to more pubs to house post offices, although details of the proposals won’t be known until the publication of a policy statement.
Longden said: “It’s encouraging and welcoming news.
“We work very closely with the post office — they sit as an advisor on our board — and anything that helps them will be helpful to pubs in the long term.
“But lets look at the final details first.”
Longden said more than 100 pubs currently house post offices.
