Morning Advertiser - Leaders hold trade talks with senior Government figures
FLVA leaders have been forging links with top figures in the coalition Government.
The group's president Nigel Williams has held talks with Nick Clegg, who is his constituency MP in Sheffield Hallam, and described them as very constructive.
Further north, senior vice-president David Hawksworth has been speaking to William Hague, his local MP in Richmond, North Yorkshire.
Hawksworth said Hague has expressed great interest in trade issues and even turned up at his pub, the Fox & Hounds in Bullamoor, North Yorkshire last week to open the pub's new banqueting extension.
"William is keenly interested in the trade and the problems pubs are experiencing. It seems his family ran pubs and hotels in Yorkshire years back."
"He spent 40 minutes at the pub talking to guests who included FLVA leaders and Pub is the Hub director John Longden."
Elsewhere at the FLVA conference, licensees were urged to use Christmas to mount a customer recruitment drive. Greene King's business development manager Joe Smith said: "Different customers appear in your pub around Christmas so why not use the occasion to capture new business? If people enjoy the experience they'll come back for a repeat visit".
