Inapub - Pub is the Hub gets top marks

A scheme to support communities and help pubs diversify their businesses has been given a resounding thumbs-up in an independent survey.

An evaluation of Pub is the Hub, which was established nearly a decade ago with the help of the Prince of Wales, revealed that 100% of those asked think that the scheme near them is important to their community.

And three-quarters of the 70-plus pubs and 100 local residents quizzed said that Pub is the Hub projects allow them to meet more local people than they would otherwise have done.

Schemes also help to save time, contribute to employment in areas and improves access to key services

The report also stated that the majority of initiatives “either break even or generate a small profit” but that the “real benefits are a sense of well being and community spirit”.

Pub is the Hub Chief Executive John Longden said: “The findings will strengthen our work as we continue to engage with hard-working licensees and local communities and empower them to work together as well as take ownership of local issues.”
The report: Pub is The Hub: Evaluating the Impact of Initiatives 2011 was carried out by research group Ecorys.
