CAMRA What's Brewing - Locals Take Over Their Local

Villagers in Llanarmon yn lal in Flintshire have taken over their pub which was threatened with closure and now they could be on the television.

Campaigners have formed a co-operative to run The Raven and have taken out a six year lease on the pub, in the Clwydian hills.

Doug Macpherson, who is in charge of marketing for Raven Mad, the company formed to run the pub said " The pub closed for three months and faced with losing the pub, the village decided to run it as a co-operative on a voluntary basis and so we formed a committe."

"Villagers voted in favour of the plans which included a television documentary being made about the process."

The pub will now be run as a community venture, staffed initially by volunteers but there are plans to appoint a manager within six months.
